Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi during the Pentecost Holidays

Early July "Feast – Body of the Lord".

Corpus Christi is a Roman Catholic holiday, the „Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ”. The feast occurs on the second Thursday after Pentecost, 10 days after Pentecost. The name “Corpus Christi” comes from “corpus” and “Christi”, therefore features elements of the Eucharist.

The feast is mostly famous for its richly embellished procession, the elements of the Eucharist that are carried along the streets.

The priest carries the “monstrance” that holds the Hosts through the community and over country roads. Many altars are built along the procession, where intercessions are prayed and the priest gives his blessings.

The numerous associations, such as the women in traditional garb, fire department, war comrades, and the band that accompany the procession are fascinating, and stand as a guard of honour time and time again.
The First Holy Communion children in their vestments have a particularly great joy during this procession!
